Privacy notice
Last updated 23 October 2026
APW Database (Africa Project Watch Database) is run by Promintal Consulting Limited (“we”). This notice explains what we record when you use the site and why. Contact us at info@promintal.co.uk.
What we record
To understand which countries, projects and tools people use, and to improve the database, we record anonymous usage events:
- that the site was opened, and the name of the site that linked to us (not the full address)
- which screens you open, which African country profiles you view and which project records you open
- the words you type into project searches and Ask APW, and how many results they found, so we can fill gaps in the data
- the starting role you pick on the welcome screen, and when you download data
- your approximate country and city, worked out by our host Cloudflare from your connection
- whether you are on a desktop, mobile or tablet
- a random visitor ID stored in your browser, so repeat visits are not counted twice
What we do not record
- Your IP address, name, email or any account details. APW Database has no sign-in.
- What you write in the Contribute form is sent only to our verification queue, not to analytics.
- Anything from other websites. We use no advertising or third-party tracking cookies.
Please don't type personal information into searches or Ask APW.
Turning it off
Nothing is recorded if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. You can also clear the site's data in your browser to remove the visitor ID.
Lawful basis and storage
We rely on our legitimate interest in running and improving the service. The visitor ID is kept in your browser's local storage, which we use only to measure use of this site. Events are stored in a Cloudflare D1 database and deleted after about 13 months. Only Promintal Consulting staff can view the statistics.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us about the data we hold, or ask us to delete it, by emailing info@promintal.co.uk. Because we hold no names or contact details, we may need your visitor ID (shown below) to find your events. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
